Presentation, Practice, Production Class

During this investigation, my partner did a class with some students using the PPP method. At the beginning of the class, my partner taught them vocabulary with body movement and having them repeat after. As the class progresses, the instructor adds more information for student to learn. In an other activity, the student begins to have more practice with the information that he or she has acquire. At the end of the class the students make teams and cooperate using information given. However, the teacher steps aside and let's students work. In this part of the class, the students receive little help from the teacher. This will make students help each other and try their best to work as a team.

Task Base Learning Class

There are many ways a teacher can give students a class. It’s not something that everyone can do. It takes more than knowledge to teach. You need to be patient, you need to be flexible and you need to have a passion to teach. My name is Carlos and I did an investigation. In my investigation I had to give an English class using “Task Base Learning”. My objective was simple: Teaching my students how to ask for things found in a market or store. In the following videos you will see how difficult for a beginner can be to teach English to children (in this case).

During the class, it can be noted that the children have different ages. However, they all seemed to be participating in class. Also, some students learn faster than others. In this investigation, the two older girls learned faster than the other three girls. As the class progresses, the children in the end get an idea of what “This is a/an” and “I want…Please/Thank you” mean. In other words, the objective of the class was achieve, but it will need to be reinforce in another class so the students won’t forget what they learned.

THE SILENT WAY

Learning new things in life has always been a challenge. People have always tried to find the perfect approach to teach learners correctly, specially a new language. However, there's no such thing as a perfect approach because learners learn in different ways. Each person has their own way. One rare method that was discovered by Caleb Gattegno was called "The Silent Way" method. The next videos will explain a little bit about this method.

The silent way is useful to develop a certain degree of self-awareness when students can discover the language on their own way by testing things and making use of the materials provided by the teacher. The interaction as well between the teacher and the students as between the students themselves and additionally the participation of the students in class is vital to elicit and practice the language.

Communicative Language Teaching

I learn by observating and analyzing the topic. It depends on what I'm trying to learn. For example, when I began learning English, at first, I listened to the pronunciation while staring at the persons lips and mouth movements. Then I tried to do the same movements with my mouth and finally I made a connection of what it means and how it can be use. When I learn methods or rules in a language, I read and imagine the content. I then try to make an example and a conclusion. What I can do is to learn the ways that my brain can easily collect data or knowledge.

Teachers think that, well not all, but some, they think we can all learn the same way and that we completely understand what they're saying or teaching. Most of the teachers just give a packet to students, using it as a "guide", however, I don't that's a great way to teach. Sometimes they use movies or power point presentations which isn't bad; what's bad is that teachers read the slides. During class I usually try to focus, understand my teacher and making a conclusion with my thoughts. To me, it's either good information or not. I ether agree with my teacher or don't, I only take what I believe it's right.
